Drifters
Illustration for the 2014 Marine Conservation Film Series (see the poster). The first prominent theme set to sail in the piece is the legacy of marine debris (plastics being a biggie here) we have so magnanimously bequeathed to our children (and our children's children...). The second is our direct and indirect facilitation of the spread of species outside their native ranges to exciting new destinations where, in the absence of the restrictions that kept their numbers in check, predation for example, these opportunists can sometimes become problematic if they can establish and spread. For an excellent case study one might look back to the arrival of the Brits to Australia in 1788... Ow.
